How to Make Your Water Taste Like a Mojito Without the Guilt!!

So, I am going to talk about that dreaded topic.

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day.

Okay, wait a sec…did I just hear some of you say “uhhh, ya, what the big deal?”

If you are a “drinking H2O is no biggie” kinda person, please just go away right now…you cannot be my friend…like ever.

Jokes.

You can be my friend.

Just show me your ways.

Pleeeeease…

Seriously, though, I have struggled with this my entire life.

I know I should drink more water (and for the record, I have a cup of coffee in the morning and then that’s it, I never drink pop or juice…wine, on the other hand…)

I also know, for an absolute fact, that when I drink roughly 8-10 glasses of water a day, I can maintain my weight waaaaay easier than if I don’t.

Hence my quest to find the ever elusive way to drink more during the day (and by drink, I mean water, not alcohol…of course you could drink alcohol during the day…because, drinking, say rum, at 10 am does not make you an alcoholic…it makes you a pirate).

I think that’s when I realized I had to make water taste more like a treat.

So I started drinking it in a wine glass…that lasted a day.

I’ve put a slice of lemon or lime (even frozen berries) into each glass…nothin’.

Then I thought that the problem wasn’t making it seem like a treat, but rather finding better ways of keeping track of how many glasses I drink each day (I’ve bought pretty/expensive water bottles, I’ve worn 8 bracelets on one hand and transferred them to the other arm when I was done a glass, I put charms on my water bottle and taken them off when I was finished…nothing lasted for longer than a day).

So what lesson did I learn?

I suck, big time, at that “do something for 21 days to create a habit” thing…

I also think, like Nike says, just do it.

Find ways – even if they are different every week – to change up the water drinking game.

So, for these past few weeks I thought I would trick my liver into thinking I was having mojitos all day long when actually, I was just drinking this.

It’s worked so far. I’m thinking my liver isn’t so smart.

These lemon/lime/mint ice cubes have been at game changer…at least for this week they have.

If I am something, it is persistent (some may call it annoying).

I will keep at it.

Until my liver catches on…

It literally takes minutes of prep (and it’s a good way to use that crazy mint that you have growing in your garden and those lemons and limes that are drying up in your fridge)…the ice cubes last in your freezer for a few weeks at least.

And, for the record, once your liver catches on, just add these cubes to your “real” mojitos (and it works amazing in gin and tonics too).

Ya know…’cause by then you’ll be all healthy and everything.
